What do you think of the current hubbub over the use of the word "Allah" in the Herald?

Well, Malaysian Malays are the conservative lot and more traditional, well most of them. This is just my opinion and if you don't agree, We can agree on one thing, which is "that we disagree with each other". I'll talk on my point of view as a muslim.

The Law states that A Malay must be have the religion of Islam to be considered a malay. Even if you have the bloodline but don't have the faith, then by law you're not considered a Malay.

When you talk about debate, there's really no win and lose because both sides has its flaws and advantages. Is caning suitable in class? It was practiced during our parents time but not now. Is the internet more of a distraction; facebook, porn, movies or an important tool for communication, knowledge and so on?

I think if they wanted to make a Malay bible then why not put "Tuhan" instead of Allah right? If they wanted to make an arabic, well that's another story. I think the hubbub is mainly that the Muslims are afraid that people would get confused over Islam and Christianity especially among the Malays.

To me, it doesn't really matter. It becomes similar to that "Perjanjian Hudaibiyah" back in the Prophets time.

I think if people get confused, they would go out looking for information to satisfy what they're lacking. Just like what happen with the September 11, many wanted to know if that is what Islam really taught. And many had converted after.

Is Malaysians more afraid to lose followers of a religion? Is the religion that weak?

The problem is also, people don't really practice what they preach, We've all heard this countless times. If we say we're afraid that Allah will punish us for not fighting for maintaining the word and what not. Aren't we sacrificing peace and all.

The laws that are not written in the Holy-Quran are to be solved by humans to the best of decision. Whatever the decision is made, stick to it. Besides, he's much a better Judge than we are. Who are we to say that we'll be punished? Butttt, that's just my opinion, besides my voice won't be heard anyways. It wouldn't make a difference.

But here we are going in and out, trying this and that. For sure some would be unsatisfied and some would. I guess that's the test then, being patient and all.

"Let there be no compulsion in religion: Truth stands out clear from Error: whoever rejects evil and believes in God hath grasped the most trustworthy hand- hold, that never breaks. And God heareth and knoweth all things." 2:256, If we really do believe, Let them do what they want with their religion and we'll focus on ours.

Why educate others when you can even educate your own kind? I love my friends from other religion very much. At the end of the day, we're still people living together, Joy, Michelle Dee, Ngin Jion, Pollux, Sean and all the rest back in Miri.
